Essential functions
- Oversees the IPM Department (Integrated Pest Management) including maintaining proper inventories and records as well as scheduling and supervising all fertilizer and pesticide applicators with an emphasis on proper safety.
- Participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; assists in coordinating with the Equipment Manager the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and schedules affected work appropriately.
- Perform various agronomic duties and directly manages crews and projects.
- Supervise and schedule all pesticide and fertilizer applications on 36 hole complex.
- Monitor the safe operation of all IPM sprayers and spreaders including proper maintenance and cleaning in a safe and proper manner.
- Track inventories and develop order lists when appropriate.
- Responsible for checking in and quantify all deliveries and properly store product.
- Supervise and/or participate in applications as necessary.
- Maintain proper and complete records and schedules.
- Participate in daily supervision of mowing, bunker maintenance and other agronomic duties and small projects.
- Exercise appropriate disciplinary action with staff.
- Create staff schedule.
- Order supplies necessary for the department.
- Enforce Quail policies/procedures for staff.
- Provide conflict resolution and counseling to employees.
- This position will require weekend duty every third weekend.
- Perform other functions as assigned by management.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in Golf Course Maintenance/Turf Maintenance.
- Knowledge of the use of turf and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, aerifier, electric motors, etc...
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able and willing to take directions and give/provide directions to staff.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and coordinate and complete tasks with limited supervision.
- Must be a self-starter and eager to learn.
- Must be able to recognize and solve problems.
- Must be a detail-oriented individual and possess time management skills.
- Must maintain high performance standards.
- Fluent reading and writing in English with the ability to recognize signs and symbols.
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with employees, management and members.
- Must have some computer skills including use of Windows, Microsoft Office Programs and the Internet.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Education, experience, and requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two or Four year Turf Management Degree and/or certificate required.
- Must have 2-4 years' experience on a golf course at some level including internships.
- Must have or be able to attain Florida pesticide applicators license.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Works outside in warm/humid weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervises 5-6 Spray Technicians.
- Supervises 15-20 weekend GCM work staff.
